A Lacey Bra

I'm on a roll with lingerie this week. Cloth Habit's Bra Making Sewalong has inspired me so I went ahead and joined up.  This is my tenth bra I've made in the last year.  Many were successes and fit well  and some... not so much... but mostly due to the fact I was getting experimental with woven fabrics.  Bra making is shockingly easier then you think.  After making my first one with the PinUp Girls #1230 pattern I felt like I was just granted access to some secret club.  I am absolutely not an expert but have pulled together some pretty and wearable bras.

I used Merckwaerdigh's MIX30 pattern for this little number.  This is a Dutch pattern with English translated directions that are pretty confusing.  It helped that I made a PinUp Girls bra first (those patterns are so well written and perfect for the complete beginner.)  The illustrations of the people are rather creepy, but the drawings of the actual lingerie is very accurate and pretty well done.  I've made this pattern three times and have been unsure whether I'm doing it right or not because of the lacking directions.  They all have ended up looking like bras so I must be doing something right.

I used a pretty white stretch lace and lined it with supplex in a sweet coral color.  The materials are from various online shops.  It's not easy to find these things locally.  There is a fantastic list of Bra making suppliers on Dixie DIY's blog.

I made a 36B and it fits nicely.  The materials are all stretchy, soft and quite comfortable.  I had a few tension issues with my sewing machine and then me pulling on the elastic when I should have let it relax.  Overall I am extremely happy with this bra!  I really wanted to make a matching pair of undies but ran out of lace. I'll dig through my stash to see what I can work out.  If your feeling sassy there is a terrific free Lacey Thong Panty pattern that was just posted on Fehr Trade this week.  I may be feeling sassy!

    1. Thanks! You have to give it a try. I started with a PinUp Girls pattern and a bra kit from them. I learned a lot with it.

    1. Thanks!!! Seriously bra making isn't hard... I totally know you'd be able to after seeing all the work you've done. But I know what you mean having a huge list... I made lingerie this week because it's easy work until I can decide what bigger project I want to make.

    1. Thank you! I made some knickers... you can try the same pattern because it's online and free. Here is the link http://clothhabit.com/free-pattern-rosy-ladyshorts/
You probably already saw my blog post about it http://kathhhhhysews.blogspot.com/2013/02/rosy-ladyshorts-pretty-undies-that-fit.html
They were easy to make and a good pattern for a beginner.

  5. This is just lovely! Coral and peach are my absolute favorite lingerie colors. I love how this is bright but subtly peeking through the lace... I think I might start a gallery for folks who made bras later in the sew-along because I feel like I'm missing so many beauties! And I just caught your pretty Ladyshorts, too. Glad you liked them ;).
