Color block dress

I need warmer clothes for cooler weather so I pulled out a pile of heavy weight knits made from recycled cotton. I have a handful of colors but none bigger then a yard or two so I combined a pepto-bismol pink with a maroon. The material is textured and feels like a comfy sweatshirt. Up close you can see that it's variegated with smears of blues, reds, yellows and whatever else they tossed in.

I did start with a pattern from Sew U Home Stretch: The Built by Wendy Guide to Sewing Knit Fabrics. I had to grade it to fit me since her sizing it meant for rail-thin model types. I added a few elements of my own. I lengthened the sleeves with a wide cuff and cut my own neckline to the size I wanted. I like the simple clean lines of the basic design.

  1. The fabric sounds great (and looks good too!). Where did you find recycled cotton?

    1. I got that fabric about 3 years ago. I'm ALMOST sure I got it at http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/. I just looked it up on their site but didn't see a listing for it. I remember the pieces I got were remnants at a discount price, so possibly they were just getting rid of it.
